At Braven Auto & Metals, we recycle all types of metals, and we will pay our customers for the metal that they bring in.
Most metals fall into one of two categories – ferrous and non-ferrous. At our scrapyard we have different processes that our customers should follow when recycling ferrous vs non-ferrous metal. To be sure that you know the difference between the two types of metal when you come to recycle at Braven Auto & Metals, read on.
Ferrous metals contain iron – they are normally corrosive and magnetic. These types of metals are mainly used in farming machinery, cars, motors and common appliances like stoves, washing machines and refrigerators. Ferrous metals have been used by humans since around 1,200 BC at the dawn of the Iron Age.
Non-ferrous metals do not contain iron, making them lighter and more malleable. Various metals fall into this category including aluminum, brass, copper, lead, gold, silver and more. Though non-ferrous metals may not provide as much strength as their counterparts, they are used strategically when a product requires durability and needs to be lightweight. Non-ferrous metals are also more resistant to corrosion and rust, which is why they are used in plumbing and roofing. These metals are also non-magnetic, making them perfect for use in small electronics and wiring.
With all of this in mind, separating your metals and knowing how to identify them before you arrive at Braven Auto & Metals should help to expedite the process. If you’re bringing in ferrous metals to recycle, be sure to start at the yard’s scale house. On the other hand, if you’re bringing in non-ferrous metals to recycle, start the process by pulling up your vehicle to the blue non-ferrous building.
